11 January 2022

Every one of our top 10 entries had a unique interpretation of the 2022 motto “Together in Christ”, based on the following bible verse:

“Now, all who believed were together, and had all things in common.”
Acts 2 : 44

Every one of them did a fantastic job with teir artwork. Trouble is, only one of them could win!

Different Interpretations and Expressions

There were, of course, different interpretations of the theme, and different ways of expression: some artists went very deep into the doctrine, others focused on the togetherness either with each other, or with Jesus. Some expressed this in a historical context, others decided for abstraction.

For example, some of the artworks had very clear depictions of the ‘historical Jesus’ as he is imagined in many existing artworks. On the abstract end of the spectrum, we found that our emblem was incorporated into many artworks, as a reference to our faith and Jesus.

Three Categories

The top ten artwork could be segregated into the three categories – historical context, doctrine and human connection. Among them, our decision was to favour artwork with a focus on human connection.

The winner was picked based on the following interpretation: As followers of Jesus we are – already today – together in Christ through the sacraments. We can experience him in everyday life and when we come together for Divine Service. This is a big joy for us, and more than anything else, we want this joy to be reflected in our motto.

First Winner

Our First Winner is Saloni Sutar (16 years) from Chembur Camp / Mumbai (entry #33). She will receive educational assistance up to INR 10,000/-.

Her artwork boasts a large cross, the universally understood sign of christianity and reference to Jesus Christ. A closer look reveals that the artwork is an approximation of our emblem, with waves on the bottom and the rays on the sides.

The cross is filled with a colorful variety of people who have come together. They are literally in Christ as they are located inside the cross. All these people are very different, each one with its unique features, but what they all have in common is the expression of joy.

This artwork represents a unique understanding of our motto, with a very simple yet clear interpretation and expression.

Runner-Up

The Runner-Up is Praisy Komalwar (18 years) from Ghugus / Chandrapur (entry #62). She is entitled to receiving educational assistance up to INR 5,000/-.

Her artwork comes closest to a logo. It is similar to other ‘logo-submissions’, but it has some unique features and details.

The logo shows the world as a globe, and a variety of people around it, holding hands. While the world shows six different islands, the centerplace is taken by a large open book, which reads the motto.

People from literally around the world are coming together, and the book in their midst can be interpreted as the bible, which is the word of God, which in turn refers to Jesus Christ.

This artwork was really striking in the way how these different people are depicted, likely from all nations, castes and creeds. Unfortunately, the format of this logo has an issue of timely context: seen from far, it has a resemblance with depictions of the coronavirus…

Third Winner

Our Third Place Winner is Kristina Annapareddy (22 years) from Nagpur (entry #51). She will receive educational assistance up to INR 3,000/-.

Her artwork can be divided into three parts: the past on the left, the present in the middle, and the future on the right side.

It tells a doctrinal story of how we can get into fellowship with Jesus: First, a depiction of all three sacraments, then our emblem in the center as symbol for following Jesus and his teachings. Finally, the goal of our faith: eternal fellowship with Jesus.
